Twin fast response craft for New South Wales Police

The two recently delivered fast response craft for the New South Wales police perfectly encapsulate the success of the designer-builder partnership. The all aluminum construction vessels feature a sea-kindly and extraordinary swift Mark Ellis designed hull capable of reaching a fully-loaded speed of 50 knots powered by twin Mercury Verado four-stroke outboards outputting 205kW each. Designed for harbour security and harbour response operations, the Britton built command console, lumber support seats and spring-loaded crew seats ensure optimal crew performance and handling while their solid mount A-frame located at the stern provides an elevated platform for mounting electronics. The state-of-the-art electronics package was supplied by Raymarine and is complemented by specialised police computers and radios. Built in survey to NSW – USL Code 2C, the vessels have an overall length of 8.85 metres on a 3.3 metre beam with a draught of just 0.55 metres. They are manned by a crew of two with seating for up to eight other police officers depending on optional requirements. A heavy-duty collarette system surrounds the top of the hull providing protection when docking or coming along side other vessels. The striking camouflage pattern on the vessels’ upper works was especially designed by Britton Marine to allow the vessels to blend into the typical New South Wales coastline.

The commander of NSW Water Police, Superintendent Terry Dalton, has expressed his happiness with the delivered vessels, describing them as having "some of the greatest capabilities of any vessels of their type in Australia and an important addition to the police fleet as his force takes the lead in implementing port security measures@quot;.

Current Projects

Britton Marine and Mark Ellis Marine Design are currently involved in a further three new vessel projects, which includes the first waterjet powered designs of their partnership. This includes two Royal Australian Navy 7.6m vessels powered by Yanmar 300hp Engines and Doen Water Jets. These craft were speciallly developed to operate in mine fields. Trial loaded speeds of 35knts.
